Thriftee gear lunchbag review

I won this Thriftee gear lunch bag in a giveaway by Cristi at Bent on Better Lunches

My eldest daughter looked at all the cool T-shirt designs and chose this cool tie dye design. You can also send in your old T-shirt to be made into a lunch bag.

It has a water resistant food safe lining and is machine washable and dry able. These bags can be used for other things beside lunch ( e.g. For a gym bag or taking things to the beach.)

It is approximately 12" tall, 4" deep and 12" wide. It can hold a substantial lunch including water bottle.

They also now make backpack style bags.

The standard lunch bag doesn't have pockets but the backpack style does. I think the addition of pockets is a good feature.

Here is the lunch I packed in this today in a Hakoya bento box.

It's held up really well to kid abuse and Washings.

All opinions are my own and I was not compensated in any way for this review.

Lovecraftian Cthulhu Lunch

This Cthulhu lunch is for me as I don't think my kids would get it quite yet! Although they think Cthulhu is cute.

Cthulhu Bento

From H. P. Lovecrafts Cthulhu mythos. We have Yog-sothoth the great cosmic entity made of asparagus and stuffed olives.

Then a rather cute Cthulhu quesadilla, made of spinach tortilla and cheese on a bed of forbidden rice.

Then devils reefs at Innsmoth from greens and grapes and blueberries.

Finally a chocolate creature from the deeps made from Party People ice cube tray and Wilton candy melts.

Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn. (In his House at R'lyeh dead Cthulhu waits dreaming) Well actually he is just waiting in this PlanetBox for me to eat him.

Brown bear bento

Following on from yesterday's Grumpy cat I thought I would do the same technique but simplified.

I got the inspiration from my daughters bento bag available at Allthingsforsale.com

I had everything out and my 9 year old wanted to make them so these are her creations ( see i told you they were easy)

Using a circle cookie cutter about 3.5" cut out two slices for each bear from dark rye. From white bread with oval cutter about 2 x 1" cut a muzzle for each bear. Cut the same hole in the face piece and insert the white bread. Use oval cutter to cut out ears and trim in half. Eyes and nose are shape-N-amaze dough.

Assemble in box with filling of choice these have jam or cheese.
Boxes used include a hakoya, monbento and ziploc box.

Flower bento

So usually I make lunches for my kids. Today I decided to make myself something even though I work from home, I deserve a yummy pretty lunch too right?

So whipped together from last nights leftovers with an egg for protein is this.

Leftover rice, with furikake not sure exactly what is I that (sesame, seaweed, prawn etc) flowers cut out from leftover golden and chiogga beets and purple sweet potato.

Other half has a fried egg cooked in a metal flower cookie cutter and the rest of the beets and sweet potato.

It was yum and better than the usual sandwich I usually need up grabbing and taking up to my desk.
So do yourselves a favor remember grown ups can eat pretty food too.

Keyboard Cat bento

Keyboard cat does it purrfectly...

I am sure alot of you have seen the Wonderful Pistachios add that ran awhile ago with the internet Meme Keyboard cat. This is my take.

My kids love Wonderful Pistachios so they are a nice addition for a lunch treat to get some extra protein in.

Keyboard cat bento

This lunch includes a keyboard made of a tortilla with keys drawn on with americolor food marker. Underneath is a cream cheese sandwich.

Keyboard cat is made from French toast (from HEB) cut with a CuteZCute cutter (these are the most wonderful cutters and can be used for all sorts of creative food) Inside is jam. I used sugar eyes and a Nori nose. The paws are more french toast.

In with the cat are grapes, tomatoes and musical food picks from Daiso. There is another layer to this bento unshown with Strawberries, more grapes and savory snack.

The card is from Lunchboxlove .

May the forth be with you bento hop

It's May the Fourth. Other wise known as Star Wars day. I am participating in a Star Wars themed bento blog hop.I have three kids so I had to do three different Star Wars themed bentos.

The first for my girl twin is a Wicket the Ewok bento.

Star Wars Ewok bento

Wicket is made from A Dark rye and white bread jam sandwich. With blue corn tortilla hood. His spear is a matcha green tea pocky with a cut grape on top. The forest of Endor is made from broccoli. The other side has fruit with Yoda because he is the light side of the force. Darth Vader is saying "come to the dark side, we have cookies!"

The next for my boy twin is a Yoda bento.

yoda bento

Yoda is made from a folded flour tortilla with cheese and an Easter egg c
container I got in the sales. With grape hands and a matcha green tea lightsaber. Underneath is a cheese sandwich. Again the dark side has cookies (I am almost sold on the dark side, the willpower is not strong in this one)

Last but not least for my eldest daughter. I made a Bantha bento.

bantha bento
The Bantha is made from dark rye sandwich with cheese horns and mouth. Bantha fodder is fruit.
